Lyst has published its list of the hottest brands and products for Q2 2019 and, while sneakers aren’t as dominant on the men’s list as they were in Q1, they still took up six of the 10 top products. Somewhat surprisingly, though, the adidas Originals YEEZY Boost 350 V2 “static black reflective” sits at the very top of the ranking.
While the silhouette has become one of adidas and Kanye West’s most consistent releases, with over 15 colorways having been released since its debut in late 2016, it has also become one of the most saturated due to increased stock levels. Several 350 V2 releases have failed to sell out in the past year and, among the hype-driven sneakerhead community, are no longer considered as cool as they used to be, which makes its entry as number one all the more surprising.
This specific colorway, however, was part of several highly-limited YEEZY Boost 350 V2 releases, including two regionally-locked packs. The limited nature of this release no doubt helped it top Lyst’s rankings for this quarter. Lyst information has its price premium at over 500 percent, while it also managed to rank in our top ten most valuable sneakers of the quarter (with data provided by StockX).
According to Lyst, general demand for adidas sneakers was up 336 percent compared to last year. This is further reflected in the other entries on the top ten, with the adidas Originals Beckenbauer landing on second place and the adidas by Raf Simons Ozweego taking fourth spot. The latter entry is also interesting in that hype around the sneaker seems to have died down since its introduction in 2013, when it was seen as a game-changing design and almost singlehandedly kickstarted the “chunky sneaker” trend.
